You can take a dip at some Gold Coast beaches today.

Lifeguards have decided to put the flags up at six locations, after two days of full closures.

Beaches right across the region were shut to swimmers on Tuesday and Wednesday, after the surf conditions were deemed too dangerous.

It was due to increased swells, strong currents and gale force wind off-shore.

"Beaches at Greenmount, Currumbin, Miami, Mermaid Beach, Wharf Rd and Broadbeach have there flags up at the present time," said Chief lifeguard Warren Young on Thursday morning.

Mr Young said they'll reassess the rest later today "around about lunchtime".

"Things are still pretty dangerous at Surfers Paradise and Main Beach, and those areas, but [conditions] may settle down later," he said.
