If you’re looking for the ultimate girls night out movie, then Rough Night is the answer.

The film stars Scarlett Johansson as Jess, a former college party girl who is now a politician running for the US Senate. She reunites with her college besties Frankie (Ilana Glazer), Blair (Zoe Kravitz) and Alice (Jillian Bell) for her bachelorette weekend in Miami.

The girls are joined by Kate McKinnon, who plays Jess' Australian friend Pippa. Now I know what you’re thinking. An American actress, doing an Aussie accent? But Kate actually pulls this off better than you might expect, and there’s so many random Australian references and jokes that you start wondering if maybe she actually is Australian. Vegemite even makes two appearances.

After a wild night of partying in South Beach, the ladies accidentally kill a stripper. Which I’m sure has happened to everyone, right? They get up to increasingly ridiculous antics as they attempt to cover up the murder and move the body, with things never going the way they planned. As you'd expect, there are a lot of laughs to be had.

The standout character is Jillian Bell’s Alice, the uptight best friend who can’t handle the thought of anyone else getting close to Jess. While this character could have been a total downer in other movies, Jillian elevates the role and injects her own hilarious brand of comedy into the part. Paul W Downs is also extremely entertaining as Jess’ fiancé Peter, a man on a “sad astronaut” mission.

One of the biggest surprises of the movie is Demi Moore’s scene-stealing role as a lascivious next-door neighbour, alongside Modern Family’s Ty Burrell. It’s safe to say you’ve never seen either of them in roles like this.

It's likely your own nights out aren’t as extreme as what the characters get up to, but most groups of friends will spot true reflections of female friendship amongst Jess and her BFFs. Whether it’s the scene at the beginning where they all agree they just prefer hanging out together rather than going to parties, or the never forgotten dance moves from a performance they put on a decade ago, you and your squad will see yourselves in these girls.

Grab your bestie, grab your sister or invite the whole group chat. Just get yourselves down to Rough Night this weekend.

Rough Night starring Scarlett Johansson is an outrageous comedy about a bachelorette weekend that goes off the rails. In cinemas NOW!
