High School student Emily Redding was among three people killed on board an Angel flight in the South East yesterday.

The light-plane went down in foggy, cold and wet conditions at Suttontown, around 20kms from Mount Gambier.

The 16 year old female patient was being flown to Adelaide Airport with her 43 year old mother for treatment.

The pair, along with the 78 year old owner and pilot from Mount Barker sadly died on impact.

Grant Gilbert is a well-known businessman whose family run a number of businesses in the Adelaide Hills.

Mount Barker Mayor Ann Ferguson says he was a well respected figure.

'The Gilbert family have been the backbone of Mount Barker for as long as I can remember'.

Grant High School will celebrate Emily's life when it's appropriate and are offering counselling to fellow students.

Grant Redding, the brother of now widowed husband Troy Redding made a statement on behalf of the family this morning.

'As you can appreciate, my brother is not up to making comment at this time and is spending time with his family, coming to terms with the tragic events of yesterday and is at home supporting his young family'.

'Our thoughts are also with the family and friends of the pilot who was a dedicated and tireless volunteer who also lost his life in this tragic incident'.

'Many thanks to the Police, Emergency Services, staff at Grant High School and others for their sympathy and empathy in dealing with family members at this difficult time'.

'We know that an event such as this will affect many members of the communities of Mount Gambier and Mount Barker and hope that anyone affected by it all seek support from family, friends and support services'.

'We respectfully request that the media respects the privacy of the family at this most difficult of times'.

A team from the Transport Safety Bureau will attend the site today to begin sifting through the wreckage.

It's the second time in a month a plane's crashed in SA.

Three pilots were killed in a Rossair crash in the Riverland four weeks ago.
