Police have confirmed one person has died, following a light-plane crash in Northern New South Wales.

The two-seater aircraft crashed into trees near Bangalow around 8:55 on Friday morning, coming to rest about 50m into the bush.

Debris could be seen in the treetops.

There was thick fog in the area when Emergency crews arrived on the scene.

The name and age of the victim isn't yet known.
