A man has died in a light plane crash in northern NSW.
The two-seater aircraft crashed into trees near Ballina just before 9am on Friday and came to a stop about 50-metres into the bush, police said.
"There is currently heavy fog in the area and one man has been confirmed deceased," a NSW Police spokeswoman said in a statement.
The Australian Transport Safety Bureau says it has been advised of a crash involving a Cessna 172.
The NSW Ambulance service was called to the scene on Rishworths Lane, Brooklet, after reports of an aircraft crash.
